oh, you guys. 

I live here. In Athens, Georgia. In case you didn’t know, there’s a threat (and yes, it is a threat) of a Walmart being built downtown.  It’s practically impossible to describe how much downtown Athens means to me and everyone else who knows and loves it, but I guess this song/video does a pretty good job. 

I am legitimately scared that this will happen. It’s like people have no respect these days; besides being a creative/music mecca and basically my soul in a town, Athens holds an incredible amount of historic value. Sticking a Walmart there will really cheapen the whole place, and besides there’s already one on Epps Bridge, which isn’t too far away from downtown. You can get anything you’d get at Walmart at any of the stores downtown, anyway. 

If I happen to come home to visit from college or after that at some point and I see the beginnings of or the actual thing sitting there, my heart will actually break. I love my Athens, and I don’t want this to happen.
